L'Anse aux Meadows-Newfoundland

We went and visited L'Anse aux Meadows at the top Western part of Newfoundland. Out of our entire trip this area was by far our favorite thing on our trip. It was filled with Moose(everywhere), vikings, whales, icebergs and cool weather. We loved it.
While there we visited L'Anse aux Meadows which was a small viking village that has been dated to approximately 1000 years ago. It was very interesting to see how people were able to live in such a harsh climate.

Icebergs & Whales

Since Bryan got so sick on our other whale tour he was nice enough to let me go out (without the boys) again but this time on an iceberg and humpback whale tour. We went out in a VERY small boat to go see this amazing iceberg and while we were out there we saw humpback whales. They didn't get as close to our boat as the killer whales but they did get within 25 feet. Once again it was amazing.

Orca WhaleTour-St. Anthony's, Newfoundland

We took the boys on a whale tour and it was the most amazing thing we have ever done. We were on a two and a half hour boat ride in search for whales and I thought it was going to be a big waste. The waters were extremely bumpy and poor Bryan spent the entire two and a half hours throwing up over the side. Since he was sick I had both boys who were exhausted and ended up falling asleep in my lap. It was very hard to hold on to them seeing that we were constantly being tossed by the waves. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse someone spotted a blow hole so we went to find to find out what it was. It turned out is was three pods on Orca otherwise known as killer whale (or Shamu). They were amazing. For about 45 min. they followed us where ever we went. They would swim right up to the boat and as they went underneath they would turn upside down so that you could see their white underbellies. I would have had much better pictures but between trying to take pictures (that I had to manually focus) while holding two sleeping boys on a rocking boat with Bryan throwing up over the side was not very easy.

Marine Center in Norris Point, Newfoundland

We took the boys to a marine center and they loved seeing all of the sea life. There was a touch tank that was SO cold. They had the water set at the same temperature as the ocean and it was barely above freezing. They had a starfish that had caught a clam and was eating it and it was so cool. They also had a live bi-colored Lobster. It was so neat. As you can see from the pictures it was two colors. This is very rare but it does happen. They also have blue lobsters occasionally. They are beautiful.

Norris Point Lighthouse-Newfoundland

We went and visited one of the MANY lighthouses that we have seen while on this trip. They have been EVERYWHERE but we decided to take the boys to this lighthouse since there were nearby local trails we could take them hiking on.
